    The Cons Of Cloud Computing

Filed under: iPad; Tagged as: , , ,

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past five years we all know about cloud computing. There are lots of reasons to move to cloud hosting but one of the most common stated reasons is the money you can save through not having to run your own data center. Everyone has unused space just sat on their servers which they’ll need one day, you don’t need to bother with this when using cloud hosting. When it comes to cloud hosting the security that’s used will be the most developed available in the technological world. This doesn’t stop people worrying about their data, out there alone in the cloud surrounded by everyone else’s data. Another common concern is the lack of control you have, if something goes wrong the data centers and the power is out of your control.

A much as cloud hosting companies like to sell us the upside of the cloud we all know it can go wrong. Millions of people all over the world lost access to their Gmail service several times on 2009 after Google experienced several server errors. With busineses these days being so reliant on instant communication and email access this did a lot of damage to Google’s service provider reputation. Google are still putting their faith in server virtualization and are going ahead with their cloud based operating system Google Chrome OS. As recently as this week ecommerce giant Amazon had several European sites down due to an error with a data center. Between Amazon and Google the whole reliability of the cloud has been called into question as people are stating to worry just how safe their data is in the cloud.

It’s always been the technology behind the data centers that’s been blamed for these outages which have lead many people to wonder how safe their data is out there in the cloud.
